The Accessibility Report is where you will access the Ally Accessibility Checker and fix your accessibility issues.

Best Practice: Update accessibility issues through original source file (Microsoft® Word, PowerPoint, Excel). Ally shows you where there is an accessibility error with PDF tags but doesn't allow you to fix them through the accessibility checker.

Best Practice: Faculty should cleanup old courses and delete content not being used (old versions). Ally includes unused content in the overall accessibility score for the course.

Enabling the Accessibility Report in Canvas

1. 1. Login to your Canvas course and the click Settings in the left navigation
  2. Click the Navigation tab
  3. Scroll down to Accessibility Report and then click the 3 dots to the right of the text
  4. Select Enable
  5. Click the Save button

Fixing accessibility issues in your Canvas course

Click the Accessibility Report to find the issues you need to fix in your course. You can start by choosing to fix content with the easiest issues or the lowest scoring content.

Click the Start button to fix content with the easiest issues or the lowest scoring content. There is a Start button for each option.

Once you enable the Accessibility Report in the course, you can fix issues directly on the Canvas page. Click Edit on your Canvas page.

When you edit your Canvas page, the Ally accessibility score for the page appears in the upper right corner of the rich content editor.

When you rollover the accessibility score, you receive a message "Select to improve"

Select the score to start making fixes.

You can also choose to make changes directly from the page you are viewing. Below, the icons have an accessibility score indicator below the image. In this case, some are red. You can click the indicator to make the correction.

Accessibility check indicators appear in your course for items such as images that need Alt-text added.

NOTE: Use the Ally Accessibility Checker to fix missing image descriptions and Canvas pages. You cannot fix PDF, Word, or PowerPoint documents with Ally. You need to use the Accessibility checkers built into those tools.
